When I travel I love to stay at luxurious hotels - especially the kind of places that offer over the top extras and really spoil their guests with great service, nice spas, awesome restaurants and beautiful views. What more can you want? To save some time, I've put together this list of my favourite 5-star hotels and resorts in Zaō Onsen. I hope you will like it!

  Hotel. Only a 1-minute walk from Zao Onsen Ski Resort, Zao Kokusai Hotel offers indoor/outdoor spacious hot-spring baths and Japanese-style rooms. Guests can refresh with a quick 10-minute massage at the lounge or request for longer massages in their rooms. A free shuttle is available from Zao Onsen Bus Terminal, which is also a 10-minute walk away. Guests can choose to stay in Japanese-style rooms with tatami (woven-straw) floors or in Western rooms with beds and carpeted floors. A flat-screen satellite TV, a fridge and an electric kettle with green tea bags are included in each. Yukata robes are provided for all guests and the en suite bathroom comes with a hairdryer. A hot-spring bath can be reserved for private-use and guests can rent ski equipment for an extra charge. Local souvenirs can be purchased at the gift shop and karaoke rooms are available for enjoying the night. All meals are served at the dining room. Hotel Zao Kokusai is a 40-minute drive from Okama Crater and a 50-minute drive from Risshaku-ji Temple. Yamagata Airport is a 1-hour drive away.
